Fall Door Hanger

As a crafter, I sometimes find inspiration in unexpected places. The Aldi supermarket chain is known to have some amazing seasonal treasures in their “Aldi Finds” aisle. That’s where I came across a pumpkin charger plate that immediately inspired this project.

The beautiful charger plate caught my eye right away, with its woven texture and warm brown tone. I was pleased to find that it was made with a sturdy metal frame. I decided it would make an amazing door or wall hanger if I added a floral arrangement to it. I turned to my fall craft stash to gather supplies. I gravitated towards a blue ribbon with orange, green, and cream flowers. I chose florals that would nicely compliment the ribbon.

First, I cut a piece of foam (roughly 3″ x 2″ x 1″) to add the florals into. I adhered the foam to the lower left-hand side of the pumpkin using a mixture of Titebond Quick & Thick glue and hot glue. For added support, I also used a Zip-Tie to tie the foam onto the metal frame.

I added Spanish moss to cover the foam block. Then I adhered cream colored ficus leaves to the foam using hot glue. Long moss green grass was added for movement and interest. I made a simply two-loop bow with the blue ribbon, and secured it with floral wire. You can see a quick bow tutorial here https://www.youtube.com/shorts/ufcSAdn5qiE. The floral wire and hot glue were used to adhere the bow into the foam.

Three burnt orange peonies were added as focal blooms. I continued adding foliage and filler flowers in cream, blue, orange, and moss green tones to bring everything together. I hope this project is a reminder that inspiration can be found anywhere if you stay open to it. You never know what might spark an idea, even during a quick trip to the grocery store.
