Spring Bird Makeover
I found a sweet bird on clearance during a visit to Hobby Lobby. While it was cute as it was, I thought it could use a makeover to reach its full potential. This is an easy project that anyone can do!

I knew I wanted to paint the bird. I used Folk Art chalk paint in the color Sheepskin. I also gathered a few other items from my craft stash.

I gave the bird two coats of paint, making sure to dry thoroughly in between the coats. I used a pointed paint brush in order to get the paint into all the crevices of the flower accent.

Once the second coat of paint was dry. I used a small sander to sand back some of the paint. Revealing the dark base underneath brought out the details of the bird. The sandpaper I used was 120 grit.

I gathered a small basket, a 6″ grapevine wreath, excelsior moss, Spanish moss, greenery, and brown packing paper. To build a nest, I crumpled up the packing paper to fill the bottom of the basket. I then placed the wreath, followed by the mosses on top. Finally I tucked some greenery around the nest.

I perched the bird on top of its nest. As a finishing touch I added some small wooden eggs to the nest.I hope you’re inspired to try this next time you see a bird while out shopping or thrifting! Do you think the eggs are the perfect finishing touch? How else would you embellish your nest? Share your ideas in the comments.
